Yin yoga will yoga balls is a slow, meditative class - focusing on holding poses for extended periods (typiclaly 3-5 minutes or more).   This allows for a deep stretch targeting the connective tissues, such as ligaments, fascia and joints, rather than just the muscles. 

Incorporating yoga balls into a yin yoga practice can also deepen the stretch and enhance the release of tension in targeted pressure areas
